Description:

Are you interested in learning about research competencies and trends both at Virginia Tech and globally?  Are you looking potential collaborators, competitors, or even recruits?  This course will introduce you to Elsevier's Scival and Funding Institutional.  Scival is a web-based analytics tool that allows users to evaluate research landscapes and includes 20,000 research institutions globally. Funding Institutional, a tool most often used to track funding opportunities, also allows for searching who's awarded in topics of interest to you or your unit.  In this session, we will cover the following topics:
* Navigating tool interfaces
* Discover research competencies and trends by topic or category
* Discover potential collaborators, competitors, or potential recruits
* Understand Field Weighted Citation Impact and Prominence Percentile
* Discover past awards by subject, keyword, funder, and advanced searching
