Description:
This introductory workshop will provide an accessible overview of generative AI and its potential impacts on higher education. We will explore what generative AI is, what it can do, and how it may influence teaching and learning. Without delving into technical complexities, we will discuss the basic capabilities of tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E to generate human-like text, images, and other media. We will consider thoughtful applications as well as limitations and risks. Participants will leave with resources to further their understanding, along with practical next steps to explore how generative AI might relate to their disciplines. Rather than a focus on how the technology works behind the scenes, our goal will be to start an informed, nuanced dialogue about if and how generative AI should thoughtfully enhance our classrooms.
