This comprehensive, self-paced online course provides an in-depth overview of financial management practices at Virginia Tech, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools needed for effective fiscal stewardship. Across multiple modules, participants explore core topics including budgeting processes, fund accounting, overhead administration, payroll, salary planning, capital projects, scholarship management, and financial reporting systems.Participants will gain practical insight into university financial operations, including the development and management of E&G and overhead budgets, interpretation of financial data, management of faculty and research funding, and the processes that support payroll, budget transfers, and organizational structures. Emphasis is placed on applying policies, procedures, and best practices to support informed decision-making, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Certificate Credits AvailableEach module is self-paced, takes approximately one hour to complete, and concludes with a quiz. Participants must achieve a score of 80% or higher on each quiz to successfully complete a module. This course consists of 12 modules, each worth one certificate credit toward the Fiscal Training and Development Program. Participants who complete all modules will earn a total of 12 certificate credits.
