Course Description:

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Virginia Tech's accounts receivable and cash management processes, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage departmental receivables, deposits, and funds handling activities. Participants will explore university policies, procedures, systems, and internal controls that support accounts receivable operations, cash collection, departmental deposits, and financial reconciliation. The course introduces key tools, including MicroStrategy reporting, while emphasizing fiscal stewardship, data integrity, compliance, and accurate financial reporting. Participants will also gain an understanding of service center requirements, departmental responsibilities, and best practices for safeguarding university assets throughout the accounts receivable lifecycle. Upon completion, learners will have the foundational knowledge needed to confidently perform accounts receivable responsibilities, maintain compliance with university requirements, and support effective financial management within their departments.

Certificate Points Available

Each module is self-paced, takes between 30 minutes to one hour to complete, and concludes with a quiz. Participants must achieve a score of 80% or higher on each quiz to successfully complete a module. This course consists of two modules, each worth one certificate credit toward the Fiscal Training and Development Program. Participants who complete all modules will earn a total of two credits.
