Course Description:
The Workplace Skills and Professional Development course equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and practical experiences needed to strengthen leadership effectiveness within Virginia Tech's financial and administrative environment. Through a combination of self-paced learning, applied collaboration, and reflective practice, participants will develop core leadership competencies, build effective teams, and strengthen their ability to lead through organizational change.
The course explores foundational leadership principles, change management strategies, and approaches for fostering collaboration across cross-functional teams. Participants will also engage in structured mentorship and colleague collaboration activities that provide opportunities to apply leadership concepts, exchange best practices, and reflect on real-world workplace experiences. Emphasis is placed on communication, problem-solving, team development, and building collaborative relationships that support organizational success.
Upon completion of the program, participants will have the foundational leadership skills needed to effectively lead teams, navigate change, collaborate across organizational boundaries, and contribute to Virginia Tech's mission through thoughtful leadership and continuous professional development.
Certificate Credits Available
Each module is self-paced, takes between 30 minutes to one hour to complete, and concludes with a quiz. Participants must achieve a score of 80% or higher on each quiz to successfully complete a module. This course consists of four modules, each worth one certificate credit toward the Fiscal Training and Development Program. Participants who complete all modules will earn a total of four credits.
