This course offers a detailed overview of intellectual property (IP) rights in the context of scholarly publishing. It explores the four primary forms of IP (copyright, trademark, trade secrets, and patents) and outlines their relevance to academic authorship and research dissemination. Participants will learn how to protect their work through copyright registration, request reprint permissions, and understand key licensing frameworks such as Fair Use and Creative Commons. The course also covers the processes for securing trademarks and patents, as well as current debates surrounding IP, including copyright transfer agreements and the implications of Open Access and institutional patent-sharing policies.
