Description:
This course prepares doctoral candidates to confidently plan, present, and complete their dissertation defense. Learners will understand the key functions, structure, and attendees of a typical defense. The course provides guidance on scheduling the defense, selecting appropriate presentation software, and organizing slide content based on disciplinary norms in STEM, the social sciences, and the humanities. Participants will prepare to answer common defense questions and will learn strategies for handling difficult questions and responding to critical feedback. Additional topics include post-defense revisions, final submission of the completed dissertation, and next steps if the defense is not passed.
