This course provides faculty members with a comprehensive overview of service and leadership best practices within higher education. Learners will explore the five major types of faculty service (departmental, university, professional, community, and advisory) and examine their value to both individual career advancement and institutional mission. The course covers how to engage meaningfully in shared governance, serve on committees, contribute to professional societies, and take on leadership roles at multiple levels. Participants will also learn strategies for joining non-profit or corporate advisory boards and balancing service commitments with research and teaching responsibilities to maintain a sustainable and impactful academic career.
