As Generative AI becomes more prevalent in academia, it is essential to engage with tools like ChatGPT and Gemini responsibly and critically. This course, grounded in educational scaffolding and Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development, guides learners in using the AMERH framework (Ask, Museful, Evaluate, React, Chain/Refine) to interact effectively with GenAI tools. Learners begin by asking questions that clarify the content and structure of their prompts. Next, they critically assess both their prompts and AI responses for bias or inaccuracies. To move beyond passive use, learners are encouraged to react thoughtfully to AI outputs, a process known as reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), which enhances AI performance over time. Finally, learners practice refining or following up on prompts, a process called Chain/Refine. The course will conclude with guidance on using the AMERH framework (AMER, 2025) to create accessible educational content and experiences.
