Description:

The Virginia Tech Principles of Community is an aspirational statement that speaks to what we want to be as an institution. At its core are the beliefs that Virginia Tech is a community built on respect for all people and each of its members share in the responsibility for upholding its values.

The purpose of this course is to explore the meaning of the Principles: how they came to be, how they connect to our history as an institution as well as to broader historical moments, and the policies and procedures in place across the university that enable us to reach for the aspirations reflected in the statement.  The course also serves as an invitation to situate ourselves in the history and culture of Virginia Tech as a responsive, inclusive, and equitable community.
