Basic ideas of containers and their use

Description:

Containers (e.g., Docker, Apptainer) provide a mechanism for housing software such that it can run on virtually any computer. Among the advantages of containers are reproducibility, portability, and provenance. Here, we focus on Apptainer because it is the type of container used in research computing environments where users do not have root privileges.
