Description:

Data Carpentry aims to help researchers learn data cleaning, management, analysis, and visualization using spreadsheets (i.e. Excel), OpenRefine, and R/RStudio by practicing real-life workflows. Learners are expected to attend the full two days.

We'll use ecology data from the Portal Project Teaching Database but the principles and tools are applicable across disciplines. See https://datacarpentry.org/lessons/#ecology-workshop for more information on the curriculum.

The workshop is open to anyone. You do not need any programming experience to participate but you will need to bring a Windows, Mac or Linux laptop. Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided.

If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, please email library-event-accessibility-g@vt.edu at least 10 business days prior to the event.
