Description:
Whether you're getting started with survey research, moving from another platform to Qualtrics, or just looking to improve your skills in collecting survey data, this workshop has something for you!
The first half of the day will focus on best practices for survey design and data collection, including:
- Recruitment and distribution practices to increasing response rates
- Alternatives to emails and posters for recruiting participants
- How to write questions that produce better data and reduce respondent burden
- How to design accessible surveys that are compliant with upcoming changes to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act
- Tips for instructional surveys, event registration, and other non-research surveys
The second half of the day will provide everything you need to get started with Qualtrics, including how to:
- Create projects and surveys
- Implement a variety of question types
- Distribute surveys and track responses
- Create custom data dashboards
- Export data to other tools
- Share and archive data
- Collaborate with other users
This is a participatory workshop open to anyone at Virginia Tech with access to Qualtrics

As a bonus service for attendees, 1 on 1 consultations will be available during lunch to help with a variety of survey-related questions, including:
- Survey participant recruitment
- Survey power analysis
- Survey question design
- Survey logic setup
- Conjoint experiments or other survey experiments
- Statistical analysis
- Exporting Qualtrics or QuestionPro data
- Data management planning (DMPs and data archiving)
- Migrating surveys from QuestionPro to Qualtrics
