Description:
In accordance with federal requirements from the CHIPS and Science Act 2022, National Security Presidential Memorandum 33, and a pending final rule on research security program requirements, the Office of Sponsored Programs and Office of Export and Secure Research Compliance have developed research security training for Virginia Tech.
In partnership with the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation developed a series of training modules to provide recipients of federal research funding with information on risks and threats to the global research ecosystem, as well as the knowledge and tools necessary to protect against these risks. Universities may opt to utilize all or portions of the NSF modules in their research security training experiences. Additionally, the NSF allows universities to modify the modules to include institutional-specific guidance. To meet the needs of Virginia Tech stakeholders, as well as adhere to federal guidelines, this training includes both federal-agency- and Virginia Tech-developed material.
Your completion of this training meets the federal requirement for a 12-month period, after which you will be required to take Research Security Refresher Training if you wish to continue proposing to or participating in federally-sponsored research.
