Description:
This presentation will provide an overview of meta-analysis. I will address the definitions of meta-analysis and systematic review, the motivation for doing a meta-analysis, and the general principles in undertaking one. I will also discuss treatment effect estimates; data extraction; heterogeneity; fixed and random effects models; forest plots; and reporting bias. I will briefly review standards, checklists and guidelines. The objective is for an attendee to be an informed reader of meta-analyses and prepared to delve deeper into meta-analytic methodology if desired.
