Overview:
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to shape the landscape of higher education, course design is changing too. In this module, educators explore the role of AI in the classroom. Participants will investigate frameworks for integrating AI policies, supporting student literacy, and designing assignments that account for or leverage generative AI tools.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Compare key approaches for integrating AI into the classroom
- Discuss implications of AI approaches on course and assignment policies
- Design or adapt an assignment that either incorporates or anticipates the use of generative AI
- Identify strategies for building students’ AI literacy and ethical awareness
About the Learning Journey & Module Prerequisites:
This is module 4 in the 'AI Essentials for Teaching and Learning' learning journey:
- Module 0: Intro to Generative AI
- Module 1: Foundational AI Literacy for Educators
- Module 2: Intro to AI Prompting for Faculty
- Module 3: Integrating AI into Teaching Workflows
- Module 4: AI-Conscious Course and Assignment Design
To get the most out of 'AI-Conscious Course and Assignment Design,' we strongly encourage participants to have taken:
- Topics 0-2 prior to the session
- And a session on course design fundamentals
Or have an equivalent foundational understanding of how generative AI works, responsible and ethical use of AI, strategies for secure and effective prompting, and the fundamentals of course design.
