Description:

We’re excited to have you join this online learning community as we explore strategies to enhance teaching and student engagement. This introductory course is designed to support you in developing effective teaching practices, fostering an inclusive learning environment,  integrating tools that enhance both in-person and online instruction, and supporting your awareness of engagement with support units available to you at Virginia Tech. 

This self-paced program is structured into four modules, each focusing on key aspects of effective teaching.

    Module 0: Before we Begin Survey. Complete this survey before moving on.
    Module 1: Teaching: What’s it all about?– Establishing a strong classroom environment and aligning course design with student success.
    Module 2: Assessment and Grading – Designing fair and meaningful assessments, providing effective feedback, and communicating expectations.
    Module 3: Maximizing Learning: Memory, Motivation, and Active Strategies– Exploring strategies for active learning, student motivation, and effective instruction.
    Module 4: Canvas, Zoom, and Beyond: Enhancing Teaching with Technology– Leveraging digital tools, accessibility practices, and innovative approaches to enhance learning.
    Module 5: Several units at Virginia Tech offer ongoing professional development opportunities to all faculty. Complete one of these opportunities to complete the certificate.

By the end of this course, you’ll have practical strategies and resources to strengthen your teaching and improve student learning outcomes. You must complete all assignments in the modules to earn the certificate.
