Description:

Prerequisites:

  • Have an ARC account enabling login to ARC systems
  • Be connected to a VT network (e.g., on campus or connected to VPN)
  • Basic familiarity with Unix Shell commands and navigating files and directories

Description:

This workshop is designed for Virginia Tech faculty, researchers, and students who want to learn about (1) data/file transfer and sharing tools through the command line, Open OnDemand, and Globus, and (2) standard Linux tools for packaging and compressing datasets and the performance impact that this can have. This workshop is primarily a guided demonstration with sections where attendees, who have an ARC account, can code along with the instructor if they wish to do so. Workshop material will be provided for those who register and will include additional tips and best practices for using ARC systems that may or may not be covered depending on time.
