Description:

Faculty Affairs is launching a Faculty Mentoring Book Club!  Through this inaugural program, Dr. Barbara Lockee, AVP for Faculty Affairs, and Dr. Maddy Schreiber, Professor of Geosciences, invite colleagues to explore Lessons from Plants by Beronda Montgomery, a thought-provoking reflection on what the natural world can teach us about growth, resilience, and relationships. Meeting at the Hahn Garden Pavilion, participants will consider how plants’ strategies for survival mirror the dynamics of effective faculty mentoring. Discussions will focus on themes such as the importance of supportive environments for fostering thriving individuals, the necessity of adapting to shifting conditions in order to sustain growth, and the value of reciprocity and mutual benefit in relationships.

The book club will meet at the Hahn Garden Pavilion on the following dates and times:

Location: Hahn Garden Pavilion

Meeting dates and times:

Wednesday, September 24, 3:00-4:30pm (Tour of garden included)

Wednesday, October 15, 3:00-4:30pm

Wednesday, December 3, 3:00-4:30pm

Given the focus on mentorship development, participation is limited to tenured faculty and University Libraries faculty with continued appointment. Participants will receive 4 credit hours of TLOS computer refresh credit.
