Description:

This workshop introduces the Structure Intelligent Guided Test (IGT), a feature of the axe DevTools Pro browser extension, which incorporates the former Lists IGT and evaluates headings, lists, changes in language, page and iframe titles, misuse of role=""application"", and media alternatives. 

During the workshop, the instructor will use focused examples to isolate individual branches of the longer wizard. Examples include text that is visually styled as a heading but lacks heading markup, a visually bulleted list without list semantics, an unmarked change in language, and an iframe with a meaningless title. Participants may use the remaining time to begin the homework assignment: completing a full Structure IGT on the Global Systems Operations practice page and submitting the saved review within one week. 

An optional brownbag lunch will be offered during the following week for questions and additional support. The answer key will be shared after the submission deadline. The workshop concludes with an exploration of how generative AI tools can help remediate issues identified during the IGT review, followed by re-testing the updated page. 

 

Course Objectives:

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: 

1. Complete a Structure IGT by evaluating headings, lists, changes in language, titles, application roles, and media alternatives. 

2. Identify structural failures such as missing or misused headings, incorrect or missing list semantics, missing or invalid lang attributes, non-descriptive titles, inappropriate use of role=""application"", and missing or inadequate media alternatives. 

3. Save and submit a Structure IGT review of the practice page, explore generative AI-assisted remediation of identified issues, and re-run the IGT on the updated page.
