Description:
Higher education can be a challenging experience for students of all backgrounds. It is important to explore the experiences of international students pursuing degrees in the U.S., especially as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a lingering effect within higher education. Educators must consider how students’ learning differences align to instructional pedagogies that affect learner belonging and outcomes. A study was conducted at Virginia Tech that examined international student learning experiences, barriers and challenges faced during and after COVID-19, guided by universal design for learning framework (UDL) and culturally responsive pedagogy. In this workshop, the findings and implications will be collaboratively reviewed with faculty and staff to propose future best practices to engage the broader student community and support the mission of diversity, equity and inclusion at VT.
