Description:

A teaching scholar explores a formalized and systematic study of the impact their teaching has on student learning. This contribution to a larger body of knowledge – general pedagogy as well as discipline-based pedagogy – is vital to the success of our students as well as the strength of our disciplinary programs. This session will engage participants in a step-by-step process for planning for their teaching scholarship. Pulling from the guidance of Bishop-Clark and Dietz-Uhler (2012), Engaging in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, we will work with several organizing tools to identify research questions, design your study, plan for data collection, and begin the IRB process. Participants should plan to arrive with some research questions in mind to use as a guide for the work throughout the session. Participants can expect a mix of presentation, work time, collaborative review, and Q&A.
