Description:
Carving out Creativity is an interdisciplinary collaboration exploring the hypothesis that stone-carving in community settings significantly influences mental health, social connection, and brain activity at the intra- and inter-personal levels. The team’s findings will be presented as an art installation co-located at 4 sites that will immerse the viewer in a world of the creative brain. Projections composed of dynamic visualizations of brain activity and video documentation of local stone carvers will fill the walls, while a central kiosk will allow the viewer to touch carved sculptures and interact across distance with holographic versions of sculptures at the other sites. Immersive audio will also fill the space, consisting of brain activity sonification and spatialized recorded sounds.
Speakers: Lisa McNair, Julia Basso, Dushan Boroyevich, Linda Correll, David Franusich, Vladimir Mitrovic, Hiromi Okumura, Tanner Upthegrove
