Full course description

Term: Fall 2020

Date: October 28th, 2020

Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm

Location: ONLINE ONLY

Instructor: Nathaniel Porter

Presented By: University Libraries (LIB)

Description:

Get a hands-on introduction to qualitative (manual) text coding in individual and team settings from home without labs or expensive software.

Learn the differences between inductive (open, grounded theory) and deductive (theory-driven) coding and practice multiple models of collaborative coding by hand and with Google Sheets and Excel.

This is an introductory workshop and it requires no experience with qualitative coding or specific software, but you will need a computer with Microsoft Excel to get the most out of it.

All workshops in the Data Education Series are available online via Zoom; links will be sent when you register.

IMPORTANT: your seat will not be held unless you also register through the Libraries calendar at https://calendar.lib.vt.edu/.

If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, please email library-event-accessibility-g@vt.edu during regular business hours at least 10 business days prior to the event.
